Who Am I? - The AI-Hosted Guessing Game inspired by Hedbanz/Heads Up Online

About Who Am I?

Welcome to Who Am I?, an AI-hosted multiplayer guessing game inspired by timeless classics like Hedbanz and "Heads Up" (you may know similar games as Guess Who?, the headbands game, or the forehead game). Every player is secretly assigned an identity that everyone but them can see. Ask Yes/No questions out loud over the room's video chat to figure out who you are — while an AI game master invents the characters, makes sure everyone recognizes them, and drips progressive hints whenever you get stuck. No card decks, no fixed database, endless replayability — and fully localized in your room's language.

How to Play Who Am I?

Step 1: Vote on a theme

Before each round, the group picks a category — Famous People, Fictional Characters, Movies, Animals, Cities, Historical Figures, Brands, and more. Anyone can propose a custom theme, and the AI tallies everyone's votes to choose the round's theme.

Step 2: Get your secret identity

The AI game master invents one secret identity per player. Everyone can see your identity — except you. A quick recognition check makes sure the whole group actually knows each identity; obscure ones are automatically swapped for something everyone recognizes, so no round ever stalls.

Step 3: Ask yes-or-no questions

On your turn, ask a Yes/No question out loud over video — "Am I a real person?", "Am I alive?", "Am I an actor?". Every other player answers on the site: Yes, No, or I don't know. If more players say Yes than No, you keep the turn and ask again. Otherwise, play passes to the next person.

Step 4: Take a guess

At any point during your turn you can submit one guess of your identity. Nail it and you score — and your finishing place counts. Stuck? Request a hint from the AI, or give up to reveal your identity.

Step 5: Reveal and score

When the round ends, all identities are revealed and scores stand. Play multiple rounds — scores carry over and accumulate — and the highest total wins.

Game Rules

  • You never see your own identity — everyone else does, so trust their answers.
  • One guess per turn. Guess wrong and the turn simply resolves on the Yes/No vote — there's no penalty, so stay in the game.
  • Keep the turn on a "Yes." More Yes than No answers means you ask again; otherwise the turn passes on.
  • Hints are earned. You must ask enough questions before unlocking each hint, and every hint costs you points.
  • The round ends when everyone has solved or given up, a turn cap or time limit is reached, or enough players have guessed.

Scoring Rules

  • Correct guess: earns base points for cracking your identity.
  • Speed bonus: the 1st player to solve earns the biggest bonus, 2nd a little less, 3rd less again — so racing to guess first pays off.
  • Hint penalty: every hint you unlock reduces the points you earn for that identity.
  • Give up: scores 0 for that identity and reveals your secret.

Note: Scoring rules are configurable by the game owner and may vary depending on the game settings.

Why Play Who Am I? on Jovly

  • AI game master — unlimited themes and characters, no boxed card decks to run out of.
  • Community themes — anyone can propose a category; the group votes on it.
  • Recognition check — obscure identities are swapped before play, so no dead rounds.
  • Smart, progressive hints — the game bends instead of breaking when someone is stuck.
  • Fully localized — every theme, character, and hint is generated in your room's language.
  • Live video built in — the classic forehead-guessing conversation happens face to face over video.

Best Practices and Tips

  • Start broad, then narrow. "Am I real?" and "Am I alive?" split the field fast before you zoom in.
  • Listen to the room. The pattern of Yes/No answers is your biggest clue.
  • Save your guess. You get one attempt per turn, so wait until you're confident.
  • Use hints wisely. They cost points, but a correct guess always beats giving up.
