Play Spy Online: A Social Deduction Game Where Questions Count

Spy, the online social deduction game of questions and bluffs, now on Jovly

Team Jovly · 7/9/2026

Spy has arrived on Jovly. It is a quick social deduction game where everyone except one player knows the same secret. The informed players need to find the outsider without revealing too much; the Spy needs to bluff, listen, and solve the secret before the room turns against them.

One Missing Secret Changes Every Conversation

At the beginning of each round, the group chooses a category and one player secretly becomes the Spy. Everyone else receives the same answer. If the category is Locations and the secret is "airport," the group might ask:

  • "Would you enjoy spending a long time here?"
  • "What would you normally bring with you?"
  • "Is it usually quiet?"

An informed player can answer naturally, but an answer that is too specific helps the Spy. An answer that is too vague attracts suspicion. That tension makes even ordinary questions revealing.

Categories Chosen by the Group

Every round starts with a vote. Players rate built-in categories including Locations, Countries, Objects, Sports, Animals, and Transport. They can also propose a custom category for the room.

The winning category is public, while the exact secret stays hidden from the Spy. This gives the Spy enough context to bluff without making the challenge trivial, and lets every group steer the game toward subjects they enjoy.

Accuse Carefully

Once the opening discussion is over, each player may accuse one suspect. The rest of the room votes to confirm or reject the accusation.

A rejected accusation sends everyone back to questioning. A confirmed accusation reveals the suspect immediately. Catch an innocent player and the Spy wins; catch the real Spy and they receive one final Golden Guess at the secret. The informed team must manage two risks at once: identifying the right person and protecting the answer.

A Spy Can Strike First

The Spy does not have to wait to be accused. At any point during questioning, they can make one voluntary secret guess. A correct answer wins the round instantly. A wrong answer hands victory to the informed players.

This creates a natural endgame. As clues accumulate, the Spy must decide whether to keep hiding or commit to an answer before someone calls a vote.

Built for Video Game Nights

Spy works because people can see one another think. Jovly keeps the role cards, timer, votes, results, and scores organized while the conversation happens over live video. There is no rigid turn system after the opening question, so groups can challenge suspicious answers and follow the discussion naturally.

That makes Spy a strong fit for:

  • Game nights with friends and family
  • Remote team socials and virtual icebreakers
  • Groups that enjoy Werewolf, Mafia, and other hidden-role games
  • Short sessions where you want a complete round in five to ten minutes
